Please contact the mountain by email if you wish to come and stay and to check conditions of the road before embarking.

Unfortunately we don’t have enough snow cover to open the lifts for skiing yet, but come for a special, mountain cabin stay under the stars instead!
Should snow conditions not enable the lifts to operate at any time over the season, we will continue to offer weekend visitors and accommodation bookings from Fri - Sun. This enables visitors to still come and enjoy our beautiful mountain experience regardless of what mother nature is up to!
We leave it in the hands of the snow gods!

a grassroots snow experience at its best!
Hanmer Springs Ski Area is a friendly, fun ski area just 17km from the alpine resort town of Hanmer Springs. From the top of the field there are great views of the surrounding mountains of St James and Molesworth Stations and the distant peaks of the Nelson Lakes National Park.
There are a variety of groomed runs and off piste to choose from for all ages and stages of skill. Slopes can be viewed from the lounge in the Day Lodge so spectators don’t miss out and the beginner’s area is right beside it with excellent open terrain for kids. The ski area is ideal for the family or group of friends for a weekend away with fun filled runs for everyone.
There are three lifts - a Poma, a Rope Tow and the learners area with a Fixed Grip Tow. If you have never used a nutcracker before, Hanmer Springs is a good place to start !
The car park is at the base of the huts and it’s just a short walk to the tows. There are no queues so you can get in as many runs as your body can handle and the tows operate until you want to stop! The cosy mountain accommodation is backpacker style and is self catering, so don’t forget to bring supplies.
To top off a perfect day or weekend in the mountains a soak in the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools will ease the strain on the muscles. The village also has some great Restaurants and Bars, and even a nightclub for those with stamina!
